Healthcare Programs

High-quality, compassionate care available to all

The Floating Hospital's healthcare programs encompass family medicine, dental services, behavioral healthcare, optometry, and podiatry. Our Women's Wellness program ensures women receive important health screenings during a day devoted to their self-care.

Programs

Family Medicine

Primary care to keep families healthy

Our family medical providers offer primary and preventive care, including pediatric well visits, women’s healthcare, infectious disease treatment, HIV testing and treatment, immunizations, and important health screenings at satellites throughout the city and at our main clinic in Long Island City. There, the in-house pharmacy’s same-day service makes picking up prescriptions easy, convenient, and affordable for all incomes.

Behavioral Health

A safe space for healing

Our culturally sensitive team of psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and social workers help individuals of all ages cope with issues such as anxiety, work-life balance, relationship problems, depression, or difficulty concentrating. Our providers address domestic violence trauma, mood disorders, and family therapy, but also work on specific issues such as parenting, stress management, self-esteem, codependency, and much more.

Dentistry

Building confidence in every smile

Using the best available techniques for preventative, restorative, and cosmetic care, our dental clinic’s services are designed for every age — from babies to adults. For women whose mouths have been damaged by violence, restoring a smile is a first important step toward self-confidence and a new chapter. The American Dental Association recommends babies visit before their first birthday to discover any potential oral health issues and to acclimate them to the dentist office early, helping avert future anxiety. Cleanings, crowns, fillings, bridges, fluoride treatments, and extractions are just some of the services provided by our staff of dentists and oral hygienists.

Podiatry

Happy feet for a better life

Foot pain, discomfort, or ailments can decrease quality of life and make walking agonizing if not impossible. Our podiatry specialist treats poor circulation, neuropathy, heel pain, sprains, bunions, skin conditions, and more, while addressing issues like diabetes and arthritis and prescribing orthotics.

Optometry

Clear sight is the focus

Individuals experiencing homelessness are up to 18 times more likely to suffer from vision-threatening diseases than the general population (source: National Health Care for the Homeless Council). Our optometry team provides vision and other tests for eye health and prescriptions for corrective lenses. Regular eye exams catch problems early, including diabetes, and can correct vision issues so children perform better in school, are safer playing sports, and can enjoy life more fully with clear sight.

Women's Wellness

Where relief partners with healthcare

Over a decade ago, one of our health educators recognized that many of our female patients were unable to access mammograms or didn’t have the time if they could. The realization led to the creation of our Women’s Wellness Day program, which offers important health screenings for STIs, HPV, and cervical and breast cancer, including mammograms. Free women’s health workshops, self-care products, massages, and nutritious meals combine for a day of relaxation, wellness, and empowerment.
